Team Weekly Memo

April 14, 2025 Templates

How do you set the direction for your team each week?

The Team Weekly Memo works best as an internal newsletter published first thing Monday morning.

Why? The memo provides direction to your team for the week.

It ensures everyone is on the same page, headed in the same direction. This supports your responsibility of defining direction and aligning efforts to achieve the mission.

This memo has 3 functions: provide direction, reinforce culture, and support accountability. [watch for details]

Reinforce Culture

It starts with a quote to set the tone for the week. Right beside it you can recognize special celebrations or milestones on the team.

Support Accountability

Second, a recap of last week’s work for accountability. Included are callout boxes to reinforce culture.

Team highlights is an opportunity to catch someone doing something right and reinforce positive behavior. The type of behavior that represents company values.

Performance coaching is for sharing tips to call up behavior and reinforce excellence. It can include reminders of details to pay extra attention to in work or servicing clients.

Provide Direction

Then, a preview of this week’s meetings to encourage preparation. This is where direction is set for the week.

List what the team needs to prioritize for the week. This list isn’t an afterthought or reaction to a client emergency, but an intentional list to support existing business plans and goals.

Share any industry resources you’ve found helpful with the team to encourage their development. Your team’s growth is a reflection of how much you invest in them. Plant seeds and water them.

EXTRA TIPS: 1) For coaching tips and industry resources to be truly helpful, I recommend organizing them in a database and tagging them for easy reference. This makes it easier than trying to find them in a team memo, especially for future team members. 2) Copy the team highlights into personnel files to make performance review time easier.

Purpose & Progress

Finally, an overview of business goals. This reinforces your team’s efforts and shows the collective progress. It holds everyone accountable to growth.

You can also highlight any business media or mentions for the team to share, if they choose.
