Greatness Requires Courage

March 10, 2025 Mindset

This coaching tip was originally published in the Coaching for Excellence newsletter.

Leadership requires courage. The wisdom to say and do the right thing. The courage to do the hard things. Often the hard thing is the right thing, but we look for any and every other way out. I’ve been there; you’ve been there.

The more often you practice courage, the better you become. The work doesn’t get easier, but mentally you know you’re capable of doing it.

Courage is having a hard conversation because you care more about the other person than yourself. Courage is letting the team member go who’s outgrown their time, so they can grow somewhere they’re better suited.

Courage requires putting yourself out there when you are nervous, when there’s no certainty, when there is no worn path. If you don’t try, you won’t know what you’re capable of, the answer will always be no, and you’ll start to resent where your position.

You’re capable! Take one step at a time and have faith in the process. 💙
