Proven Practices for results

Nurture Relationships
Make time to know your team, their interests, goals, and strengths. When team members feel appreciated and valued they show up better. If they’re an afterthought, it will show up in their engagement. Low engagement delivers mediocre performance.
“When employee engagement is high, there is 81% less absenteeism, errors down 41%, productivity up 18%, and profits up 23%.”

Clear Expectations
Define the direction of the business. Next, define success and how progress is measured. Then define how each role on the team contributes to moving the business forward. Finally, define what success looks like in each role and how progress is measured.
“Across all generations, the percentage of workers who know what is expected of them at work has declined by 4+ points since 03/2020.”

Practice Accountability
Do what you say you’ll do. If you have a habit of overcommitting, pause before answering to see if it aligns with the business direction. Hold your team accountable to performance and service standards. The brand and everyone’s reputation depend on it.
“Did you know only 19% of employees report having customer-oriented goals?”

Meet your coach
Hi, my name is Melissa
You might be wondering what qualifies me to be a leadership coach? I’d ask the same thing too. My leadership journey started in high school, continued into corporate and non-profit, and finally took me to small business. Small business is my passion as the daughter and granddaughter of entrepreneurs.
- I’ve served teams of various sizes. I’ve started with employee #1 and built up from there. I’ve stepped up to serve a team of 60 customer service reps.
- I’ve taken on management roles through internal promotions and external hiring. It’s a bigger challenge to transition into managing your peers than a new team. Respect and boundaries are key.
- I’ve worked in multiple industries: property management, retail, new home construction, event planning, non-profits, and health insurance. This reinforces my belief that character, communication, relationships, and work ethic are foundational to success. Technical skills evolve with the times and can be learned.
- I believe your team’s success reflects your leadership. I’ve had former team members be promoted and/or move into management roles. I serve enthusiastically as a reference and mentor.
- I believe people are capable of great things. I have high expectations because it only takes one person to see someone’s talent, believe in them, and push.
